About Aberdeen

Our Aberdeen office is right in the middle of the City Centre on South Silver Street. It is ideally placed if you want to come in and see us. In fact, we guarantee that if you do come in, someone will always make the time to see you, so don't worry if you haven't made an appointment.

Aberdeen's Union Street has an impressive history - it was built at the start of the 19th century and involved some very ambitious engineering. A huge viaduct was built over the Denburn valley and Union Street was built on top of it. It was one of the most impressive feats of construction of its time, and it is fitting, then, that Carlton, renowned for its work with engineering and industry, should make its headquarters on this street.

Of course Aberdeen itself has a long and imposing history. The town itself is ancient, dating back to the 8th century. In the Middle Ages, there were actually two settlements, Old and New Aberdeen, which merged towards the end of the Middle Ages. Only three years after Columbus discovered America, Aberdeen was already in the process of establishing a university - Aberdeen University was founded in 1495, making it the third oldest in Scotland. Originally known as a fishing port, in the 1960s something happened that changed Aberdeen forever, when oil was discovered beneath the dangerous waters of the North Sea. The oil capital of the north has followed the fortunes of the price of oil ever since, and the resultant influx of businesses and people from all corners of the globe has brought to Aberdeen the cultural diversity and prosperity it enjoys today.
